MEET THE MAKER

Made by Michael.
Inspired by nature.

I create enclosed terrariums from my home studio in Laguna Hills. Each one starts with a glass vessel and an idea: a tiny forest, a playful scene, or a living centerpiece.

I arrange the plants, soil, stone, and wood by hand, giving every piece its own character. From reclaimed spirits bottles to oversized glass vessels, these are gardens you can enjoy up close.

The best way to choose one is to see it for yourself. I’d love to show you around the collections.

FROM THE GROUND UP

How we build
a little living world.

Every bottle garden is arranged by hand. These six steps turn an empty glass vessel into a miniature landscape of its own.

  1. Foundation

A layer of pebbles creates space for drainage beneath the planted soil.

  2. Filtration

Activated charcoal forms a filtering layer beneath the soil.

  3. Soil

A nutrient-rich soil mix provides a growing base for the plants inside.

  4. Hardscape

Stone, wood, and moss give the garden its shape, texture, and sense of place.

  5. Plants

Tropical plants and ferns bring color and life to the miniature landscape.

  6. Watering

An initial watering helps establish the moisture balance inside the enclosed garden.

SMALL GARDENS. SIMPLE CARE.

A little care goes
a long way.

An enclosed terrarium recycles moisture, creating a small living ecosystem. Every piece comes with a care card to help you keep it thriving.

01 / LIGHT

Bright, but indirect.

Choose a spot with indirect light. Keep your garden out of direct sun, which can overheat the glass and damage the plants.

02 / WATER

Less is usually more.

Closed terrariums need very little watering. Follow the care card for your piece, and ask Michael before adding water if you’re unsure.

03 / SUPPORT

A real person to ask.

Questions about condensation, plant growth, or placement? Get in touch for help caring for your little world.

Ask Michael
90DAYS

A little peace of mind.

Every Bottle Garden Designs terrarium includes a one-time plant replacement within 90 days of purchase. The guarantee covers ordinary plant decline but does not cover damage caused by improper care, including direct sunlight or overwatering.

TESTIMONIALS

Little gardens.
Lasting impressions.

On a desk, at a gathering, or given as a gift—these gardens find a place in everyday life.

Michael gave me two small terrariums as gifts. They look beautiful and I don't have to worry about watering them as I travel frequently.

BrianCosta Mesa

He admired the empty tequila bottles at our office and offered to put plants in them. He made one for everyone who wanted one.

SteveTustin

He brought a small fern in a large lightbulb to a gift exchange. It was a huge hit and it's still thriving.

KariAnaheim Hills

When my terrarium's plant died, Michael immediately offered to replace it at no charge.

RachelAnaheim Hills

We put ours on the dining table as a centerpiece and get comments from guests constantly. I liked it so much I got another for my office.

DylanLaguna Hills

He brought us a terrarium as a housewarming gift — a cute fern in an attractive bottle with a pretty hardscape scene.
